THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The Coronavirus disease, more commonly referred to as COVID-19, belongs to the family of acute respiratory diseases. It is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It brings on severe, lethal symptoms, especially in those with compromised health. The world was caught completely unaware and unprepared for the outbreak of this pandemic.

COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease, infecting over 581 million people worldwide. There are 23.3 million confirmed cases and mortality of over 185,000 individuals in the UK alone, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The British Government has taken immediate steps to vaccinate the entire populace to mitigate the deaths caused by this disease. However, the virus can still infect even vaccinated people and cause irreparable damage to their bodies.

People are advised to get tested as soon as they experience symptoms similar to the flu and other respiratory infections. People who have come in contact with individuals exhibiting flu-like symptoms are also suggested to get tested or self-tested. These are preventative measures to stop the spread of the virus.

The National Health Service (NHS) found that one out of three people is asymptomatic, meaning one person out of three individuals is carrying the COVID-19 virus but does not display symptoms. These are the individuals who are prone to spreading the disease unknowingly. Hence, early testing and detection are crucial.

BUY HEALGEN ANTIGEN TEST UK

The Healgen antigen test kit is highly recommended by the UK Government for its fast and accurate results. It has undergone evaluations, achieving high accuracy after testing samples from numerous COVID-19 patients.

The British government wants the entire populace to order lateral flow COVID-19 test kits and perform a self-test after they suspect a possible COVID-19 infection or contact. On the government’s website, they are offering free test kits to eligible individuals. If you are not eligible, purchase your Healgen rapid COVID-19 antigen self-test to ensure your safety.

COVID-19 LIFE CYCLE AND WHEN TO GET TESTED

The World Health Organization disseminated its findings regarding the life cycle of the coronavirus. This information is crucial in determining the average period when people should get tested to achieve accurate results.

The SARS-CoV-2 strain is not the typical virus made up of DNA. Its genome is made of RNA, similar to Hepatitis C, which belongs to the type of infections that are persistent and may cause long-term consequences. The virus affects cells in various organs of the body and leaves destruction in its wake months or even years after infection.

COVID-19 spreads through air and droplet transmission. When an infected person sneezes, coughs, spits, or blows his/her nose, tiny droplets containing the virus are released into the air and the surroundings. The virus can survive hours or even days on surfaces in the environment until it can latch on to a new host.

People who come in contact with these virus-carrying droplets are in immediate danger of contracting the disease. It can enter the body through inhalation, through the mouth, or through the eyes. Once it has entered a new host, the RNA virus will travel further into the body to incubate.

Persons newly infected with COVID-19 do not exhibit symptoms immediately. On average, the virus takes 5 to 6 days to incubate and reproduce in the host’s body. It may even take 14 days to complete its reproduction. Any tests cannot detect the infection at this early stage due to the virus staying inside the body and only in small amounts.

After the incubation period, the virus now sets off to infect other cells in the host body. This is when the infected person will start to exhibit signs of infection. The usual symptoms observed include fever, fatigue, body aches, shortness of breath, dry cough, sore throat, and loss of taste and/or smell.

When a person has started experiencing the effects of the disease, this is the perfect time to perform a COVID lateral flow test. The virus has already multiplied in number and spread in the host’s body. It can now be easily detected with rapid tests.

It is advised that possibly infected persons isolate themselves from other individuals to prevent the virus from spreading. After confirming with a COVID test kit, the patient must follow the guidelines to keep themselves and others safe.

For persons experiencing flu-like symptoms, the test should be done at least two days after the onset of symptoms. This is the period when the virus is present in high amounts and is highly contagious.

Antigens are present in the upper respiratory tract, which can be taken for samples and get detected in a COVID lateral flow test. It is extracted by inserting a cotton swab through the nostril and collecting samples of the cell lining.

Once the sample has been taken from the patient, it is prepared in a solution and then introduced to the test cassette. The test will detect the presence of the virus proteins in the sample.

It only takes 15 minutes for the Healgen antigen test kit to show the results. Follow this guide in interpreting the result of your test.

  1. If the cassette displays a single line in the control line (C-Line), then the result is negative.
  2. Conversely, if the test shows two lines, both the test line (T-Line) and control (C-Line) lines, then the patient is positive for COVID-19.
  3. If the test line (T-Line) is present, the test is considered invalid.

Most COVID tests require medical expertise to perform. However, Healgen’s rapid test kits are no longer necessary. It is CE marked, meaning testing can be done by anyone at their home.

Healgen’s COVID-19 testing kit is an excellent lateral flow antigen test that is highly sensitive just as FlowFlex COVID-19 test. One in every three patients infected with the coronavirus is thought to be asymptomatic yet infectious. Healgen lateral flow tests identify and limit the spread of disease among healthy people.

In lateral flow testing, a swab is used to collect a sample from the nostril and then mixed in with the buffer solution. Droplets of the prepared sample are put into the sample well of a lateral flow cassette. The viral fragments then move through the pad within the device. The fragments will attach to the labelled antibodies, and this will appear as a colour on the test line (T-Line) if the virus is found.

In addition to that, unlabelled antibodies appear as a control line (C-Line) to demonstrate that the test was successful. In the first week up to the third week after infection, the Healgen test looks for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies.

The COVID-19 antigen test (swab) by Healgen does not distinguish between SARS-CoV and the more recent SARS-CoV-2.

FAQs

HEALGEN COVID TEST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)

What is antigen testing?

Antigens are foreign bodies that have invaded the human body. The COVID-19 virus enters the human host and reproduces inside healthy cells. When it emerges after incubation, the proteins, the foreign bodies it has replicated in large numbers, spread throughout the infected host.

These antigens are commonly present in the nasal area in the case of COVID infection. A swab sample is taken from the nostril and is then used for antigen testing. These proteins are the antigens that are detected by the Healgen COVID antigen tests. If any amount of this virus-specific protein is present, then the patient is considered infected and is a carrier of COVID-19.

Order a home COVID test from the government’s website or buy a rapid antigen test kit for use by medical professionals only.

What is a lateral flow test?

A lateral flow test is a simple device used to determine the presence or absence of a certain analyte. Analytes can be pathogens (like the COVID virus), contaminants (like bacteria in water), or biomarkers (like hormones produced during pregnancy).

A sample is taken and then put into a test cassette or dip-stick to detect the presence of the specific analyte. The colour in the test and control lines indicates the existence of said analytes.

Lateral flow tests can only be used for the specific analyte it is intended to test. For example, a pregnancy test, though it uses lateral flow technology, cannot be used to detect the COVID-19 virus in patients and vice versa.

How quickly does the Healgen rapid COVID-19 antigen self-test produce results?

The Healgen rapid antigen test is among the fastest to produce results in the current market. Compared to other tests that take hours, Healgen’s lateral flow test results are visible in as little as 15 minutes.

Quick results mean faster identification and safety measures can be enforced earlier.

What’s the difference between an antibody and an antigen test?

An antibody test, commonly known as a PCR test, detects the presence of antibodies that the immune system produces to fight certain diseases. This test can tell whether a person has been infected with COVID-19 previously. It is difficult to determine using this test whether the person is currently infected or not because antibodies are still present even when the disease is not.

On the other hand, an antigen test scans for the presence of foreign bodies like the proteins produced by the COVID virus. It is only present when the virus is still alive and active inside the patient. For that reason, an antigen test is an excellent choice to use in determining if a person is currently infected with COVID or not.

Do I need to buy any extra equipment?

No. The test kit contains all the necessary components to perform the test. It comes with concise instructions on executing the test and reading the results.

Even though the British Government has allowed the public to use lateral flow tests, it is still advisable to have medical professionals who are trained to perform the test for you.

Can I delay certain parts of the test?

No, you should always carry out the full test at a single time. If you buy a rapid test kit, you should test your specimen immediately after it is collected and for no longer than one hour. Results should be interpreted immediately, as well.

How can I store my Covid Testing Kits?

A sealed coronavirus test kit will remain usable if kept at room temperature. It may also be kept refrigerated and will still be good at 2 to 30 degrees Celsius. Freezing temperatures are not safe for the test kits.

If stored inside the refrigerator, leave the test kit on the counter to reach room temperature right before using it.

How do I dispose of a used lateral flow test kit?

Used test kits may be disposed of in the regular garbage bin along with other household waste.

What is a Healgen Rapid COVID-19 Antigen Self-test?

The Healgen rapid COVID-19 antigen self-test provides quick and accurate results of a COVID infection. It can even identify the new variants Delta and Omicron by scanning the presence of the nucleocapsid protein.

The self-test kit can be done on your own without professional assistance. The results are valid as long as you follow the instructions carefully.

What is the extraction buffer?

The kits come with an extraction buffer that contains components that separate viral proteins from their covering. This allows the assay to target the virus and dissolve its viral shell, which, in effect, deactivates the virus, as well.

Does the test kit include transport media?

No. An extraction buffer is included in the test kit. The extraction buffer cannot be used to conserve or transport specimens since it is not a transport medium.

What is a Healgen COVID test for antigen testing?

Antigen tests detect virus-specific proteins in infected people, indicating current infection. Healgen rapid antigen testing is advantageous because of its mobility, convenience, and quick turnaround time.

Can the test be used with alternative specimen types, such as nasal swabs or any specimen contained in viral transport media?

No. Only direct nasopharyngeal swab specimens are used for the Healgen rapid COVID-19 antigen test. You may only use the sterile swabs provided in the kit to perform the test.

Can I collect the specimen and test it later?

No. You should test the sample as soon as possible after it is collected. If quick testing of the sample is not possible, you can keep the specimen for up to 1 hour after collection. If the sample has been taken after an hour, dispose of it. Collect new specimens to do the test.

Can I freeze the device for long-term storage?

No. The lateral flow test device was not designed to be kept in freezing conditions. Freezing will most likely affect the components and thus not produce accurate results. If kept in cool storage, always let the components come up to room temperature before starting the test.

Why use the Healgen Rapid COVID-19 Antigen Self-test?

  • Allow people to collect samples on their own or with the help of others.
  • A safe and simple operation with single-use components decreases pollution risk.
  • Within 15 minutes, you’ll have very accurate findings.
  • It can detect all probable case specimens and general screening samples.
  • A nasal swab from the front of the nasal cavity, rather than the nasopharynx, is used in a simple test method.
