At present, the Healgen rapid antigen assessment is being rolled out on a wide scale by the UK Government to aid the mass-testing effort. Although the assessment is designed for use by clinical professionals such as doctors and nurses, an application for “exceptional use” of the assessment kit by members of the public in domestic settings was approved on December 23rd by the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
The Healgen Antigen assessment has been evaluated with specimens obtained from patients and the results show that the rapid assessment has a high overall relative accuracy.
SARS-COV-2 is an acute respiratory infectious disease, and humans are generally susceptible. Currently, the patients infected by SARS-COV-2 are the main source of infection and the disease is spreading rapidly around the world. SARS-COV-2 is especially problematic as the majority of those infected are asymptomatic, meaning that they don’t display symptoms and unknowingly spread the virus around. Based on current epidemiological investigations, SARS-COV-2’s incubation period is 1 to 14 days, with most infections taking hold within 3 to 7 days. The main symptoms of the disease include a new or continuous dry cough, a loss of taste or smell, fatigue, and a temperature or fever.
During the acute phase of the SARS-COV-2 infection, antigens are generally detectable in the upper respiratory tract. Rapid diagnoses of SARS-COV-2will help healthcare professionals treat patients, control the virus more efficiently, and save lives.
The Healgen SARS-COV-2 Antigen assessment is an in vitro immunochromatographic assay for the detection of nucleocapsid protein antigen from SARS-CoV-2 in nasal swab specimens after the swabs have been added to the virtual transport media from individuals who are suspected of having SARS-COV-2. It is intended to aid in the quick diagnosis of the SARS-CoV-2 infection so as to identify positive cases, isolate those who have it, control the virus, and save lives.
Follow these procedures to collect the specimen from the patient to assess the result. Read the ful instructions from the product insert for how to collect the speciment and how to prepare the samples for the assessment.

Collect specimen from

Prepare the sample in the
extraction tube using
extraction buffer.

Place 4 drops of prepared
sample in the sample well.
Get the results in 15 mins.
When used according to the included instructions, the ASSESSMENT kit will produce one of three results:
POSITIVE: The presence of two lines as control line (C) and test line (T) indicates a positive SARS-COV-2
test result (even if one of the lines is faint).
NEGATIVE: The presence of only the control line (C) indicates a negative SARS-COV-2 test result.
INVALID: If there is no control line (C) after performing the test, the result is invalid

STORAGE: The kit can be stored at room temperature. It can also be refrigerated between 2-30 degrees Celsius. The kit must remain in its sealed pouch until it is used. The assessment must not be frozen and it must not be used beyond the expiration date printed on the sealed pouch.
TERMS: All persons intending to use the Healgen SARS-COV-2 Antigen Assessment must rely on their own knowledge and judgment in doing so. The assessment kit is designed for use by healthcare professionals only, however, the assessment has been approved for domestic use by non-healthcare professionals since December 23rd. The buyer is responsible for complying with applicable regulations governing the assessment and shall use it in accordance with applicable laws, including health and safety regulations, and in accordance with the instructions.
